We took our first ride on the Singapore Flyer - the world's largest ferris wheel! We also took an open-topped double-decker bus tour through the city. Lucky for us we chose an extra hot day without a cloud in the sky. Whew! We then spent a day at the Botanical Gardens - we rode our bikes the entire treacherous way only to find that we aren't even allowed to ride bikes in the park! At least we remembered to bring a soccer ball.
Next, we took a trip to the zoo for what we planned to be a "feeding tour" - we tried to race around the zoo to all of the animal feeding times. We managed to make it to three of them. We made it to feed the tortoises, we fed the kangaroos, and we got to toss bananas to the baboons! So cool!!
The last day of Spring Break, Matt took the day off and we took the boys prawn fishing. There are several "prawn fishing holes" around the island; they are little, well-stocked, man-made water holes usually cut out of the middle of a large deck where you use a fishing pole to catch prawns. Ethan had really good luck and caught a small one right away, then things got really exciting. A few minutes later Ethan pulled out a huge prawn with bright blue legs, everyone was watching him try to wrangle it out of the water - especially Jonah, who leaned forward to see the prawn, lost his footing, and fell (along with his stool and Matt's cell phone!) into the creepy, murky, prawn-infested water with a huge splash! It was quite a scene. Soaked head to foot, that pretty much soured Jonah on prawn fishing so he spent the rest of the afternoon looking for fish in the man-made fishing hole next store.
We had a very fun Spring Break week exploring Singapore and still have lots more places we want to visit; for such a small island, there are tons of things to do.
