Just Hanging Out!

Just another post to share some recent photos that don't really fit into any of the other posts. :) Most of them happen to be of Liam since he is usually too little to participate in the activities where the "big boys" are photographed.

Around Singapore - Chingay Parade

The annual Chingay Parade was crazy! It's another Chinese New year celebration to welcome the spring. Although these parades have apparently been held throughout Asia since the late 1800s, the Chingay Parade officially came to Singapore in 1973. It was a huge parade and we actually bought tickets so we could sit in the grandstands erected just for the parade. We got great seats, right in front of City Hall where the parade began. So we got to see everything - all the floats, the performances, fireworks - it was amazing! The kids especially loved the lion and dragon dances, but the floats and performances were incredible!

Around Singapore - Soccer Game and Zoo Run

We recently went to the National Stadium to watch the Singapore National Soccer team play against the Jordan National team. It was very exciting. Ethan and Jonah had actually played in that very same stadium only a few weeks before so that was especially exciting for them. The game was great. Singapore was ahead 1-0 until the referee made a horrible call that gave the Jordan team a PK. They tied it up but Singapore came through again with a beautiful goal to win the game! There weren't a whole lot of spectators there - Singapore is not the most "sports crazy" country - but enough to make it fun and exciting.

And we finally ran our first road race since arriving in Singapore - the Zoo Run! It was a 6k run that took us all through the Night Safari and the Singapore Zoo. It's the first annual run and was in honor of Ah Meng, the zoo's famous orangutan who passed away last year. There were over 4,000 runners, so it was a bit cramped and took us quite some time to get through the starting gate, but we finally got a good pace going. We all stuck together and ran the first 4k through the Night Safari - most of the nocturnal animals were asleep so there was not much to see. We slowed down a bit for the last 2k through the zoo - in part because we were exhausted and in part because we couldn't resist stopping to see some animals. It was very fun and I even won a random drawing prize! We are already signed up for another 5k and Ethan is signed up for his first triathlon! We'll keep you updated.
